July 2023 Anniversary Trip, Days 2-4

Day 2 took us to Cazadero, basically northwest of Santa Rosa, California to the home dear friends Sandy and Brit, who haven’t been home very long after their own adventures of spending months on their sailboat in the Caribbean.  They were awesome hosts, and a perfect driveway for Seymour (the trailer) to park and spend the night.

Parfait has never had this large of a secured yard to explore and run around in.  She had an absolute blast, and was so tired that she let us sleep in the next morning by an extra hour.

A phenomenal vegetarian lasagna, and walking tour around town, and ended ice cream topped with Sandy’s fresh berries.  We slept well!

Brit shared how a nearby business restores Willys.  It was closed for the day when we walked by, but you could see countless projects in various conditions. What an awesome site for a car guy.

In the morning after fresh scones, home-raised chicken eggs, and great coffee, we were on the road again.

Only as we left, did we tell them that “today,” the 16th, was our 35th wedding anniversary.  We didn’t  want them to feel they had to do more for our visit, and in retrospect, they couldn’t have done more. Perfection couldn’t be improved upon.

Alas, trying to take a group selfie of all of us turned out to be a fun challenge.

Under recommendation, we stopped at Fort Ross and toured it.  The Native American and Russian immigrant history for the fort and area was very interesting.  Since we had a parking spot with a view of the ocean, so we used the opportunity to enjoy lunch.

We arrived in Fort Bragg near the end of the day.  I had set the bar pretty low for this RV park, but it actually turned out better than expected.  It’s not fancy at all, but the staff and visitors are very friendly, and great walking trails for us to stroll along the shore.  It was quiet.

Cool and cloudy weather greeted us, and I tried to get back from a short walk to grab my phone and take a photo of a spectacular rainbow behind our site, but I was definitely losing the sunset light by the time I took it.

The main course included grilled prime steaks and Kari cooked truffle mashed potatoes topped the anniversary dinner menu.  Yum and yum.  And another bottle of wine is lost to history.

Today, the 17th, was a planned down day after the week’s hurts, the heat, and the hurries (not diarrhea, just pushing to get on the road).

We even did takeout from a good little restaurant adjacent to the RV park.

Tomorrow will be a march along a lot more curved coastal roads.  We leave here and end up in Brookings, Oregon.
